Overview

Initially developed for NHS doctors-in-training by Health Education England and the multi-award winning Blended Learning team, this educational programme is now available for enrolment by International students.

The 16 week online CPD module is designed around the UK Royal College Of Surgeons Emergency Surgery Curriculum. The curriculum provides a framework of essential knowledge required to be a competent consultant-level emergency general surgeon.

The teaching programme uses a blended learning approach and flexible learning resources to aid knowledge acquisition, enhance communication skills and improve clinical decision making.

Each week a new topic is introduced, using a Problem-Based-Learning approach. Students will participate in asynchronous discussion boards, curated by a consultant faculty, providing a forum to debate the optimal management and current controversies on the chosen topic. Learning is augmented with a range of mixed media format teaching aids and videos, alongside formative assessment tools.

The module will conclude with an optional end-of- module e-OSCE to consolidate the topics covered and simulate the FRCS Part B Viva experience.
