The Insertion of a Nasogastric tube (NGT) course will consider indications and contraindications for insertion of a nasogastric tube and anatomy and physiology in relation to NGT’s. It promotes a clear, consistent and evidence based approach to the insertion, care and management of an NGT, an understanding of nasogastric nutrition feeding and medication administration. It also gives an overview on troubleshooting NGT’s and complications to promote the safety and wellbeing of all patients who require a NGT. The course provides guidance regarding scope of professional practice, level of competence and accountability in relation to NGT’s.
